Taking Your Baby Swimming

This year we decided to get a membership to the community pool in our neighborhood. It was the best decision we could have made for the summer. Emily and I go almost every morning. She loves the water and watching all the other kids splashing around. I want her to be really comfortable around water so I’m glad she is getting used to it at an early age. We usually go to the pool around 10 and come back by lunchtime so when she goes down for her nap right after lunch, she sleeps hard! She is so tuckered out from the pool and the sunshine that she has been taking really great naps, which has been great for mama getting things done.

Austin and I took Emily to the pool together the first time, but the next time it was just her and I going. I was a little nervous to go with her by myself because I thought I would need the extra hands, but we’ve gotten so used to going just the two of us now. I thought I would share all of our pool necessities.

Here are a few things that I always bring with me when we go to the pool with our little one.

  1. Rash guard

Emily has two different swimsuits right now. One is a normal one piece suit and the other is a rashguard top with separate bottoms. While the one piece is absolutely adorable, I really like the rash guard because it protects her top half from the sun.

  1. Swim diapers

We use Pampers swim diapers and they’ve been great for us. The first time we went to the pool, I put Emily in her swimsuit and swim diaper before we walked down to the pool and learned that was not the best idea since swim diapers don’t absorb liquid. I knew this already, but still attempted to make it work. It didn’t. So now I put her swim top on and leave her normal diaper on until we get down to the pool. Then I just put her swim diaper on right before we get in the water.

  1. Sunscreen

I did a lot of researching before we got sunscreen for Emily. I decided to go with Think Baby Sunscreen and it’s been great. It goes on well and has a nice light scent and she hasn’t gotten burned at all even with her fair, Irish skin. I’ve been really happy with it so far.

  1. Hat

I always keep a hat on Emily while we’re in the sun. I have one that has a strap under her chin. She doesn’t always appreciate having it on, but she barely has any hair and I don’t want her head getting burned.

  1. Floaties

We ended up getting two different types of floaties for Emily this summer. We started with one that she could sit in and that had a shade that would protect her from the sun. She was too small at the beginning of summer for the floaties that she could wear, but by mid summer she was able to use these and loves them!

  1. Snacks/water

I always bring some kind of a snack in case Emily gets hungry. Usually we go between snack and lunch time so we haven’t needed one yet, but I’m sure we will at some point. I also always bring water for her. This we do always use. Even though it’s only the beginning of summer, it’s pretty hot out. I also bring water for myself.

I have loved our daily swims so much! I would love to hear what you bring to the pool with you! Any suggestions for pool toys for a one year old would be super helpful!

Decluttered our shoes today. Comment “ shoe ” and I’ll DM you the link for our shoe organizer! I can’t believe I let this closet get this like, but also I have to tell you why. Right before we left on our trip to Florida, both of my girls had switched shoe sizes. I also hadn’t transitioned between winter shoes to summer shoes so I literally had this closet stuffed with shoes and never went through to get rid of the ones we no longer needed. So I had old sizes, winter and summer shoes, and new shoes I bought before our trip here, not to mention way too many of my shoes that I normally keep upstairs in my closet. And once we got back from our trip, instead of taking care of the closet first, I just dumped all of the shoes in here 🫣We’ve literally just been surviving with this mess so today I finally took care of it! Once I got through all of the sizes we no longer needed and organized all of the shoes into pairs, it was so easy to get it put away properly in our shoe organizer! I love this shoe organizer that we have in this closet. It’s the perfect size and holds so many shoes! It usually makes it so easy to keep this closet organized because the kids can easily get and put away their shoes- as long as I stay on top of getting rid of shoes once they no longer fit 😂#decluttering #declutter #declutteryourhome #howtodeclutter #declutteryourlife #declutterwithme #cleanwithme #organizewithme #organizedhome #shoeorganizer #shoeorganization

Comment “ sunshine ” and I’ll message you the link for everything I used to put this together! ☀️🌼🍋Tag a friend who is a teacher in the comments or comment if you’re a teacher(homeschool mama’s count too) and I’ll choose two of them to send an Amazon gift card to next week! 💛💛A little cup of sunshine is the perfect way to say thank you to your kid’s teacher at the end of the year. I started with this cute lemon glass from Amazon and filled it with a handful of yellow goodies like a facemask, eye patches, hand lotion, chocolates, a lip balm and an adorable daisy hair clip. Then I added a lemon keychain to the side. You can really be creative and add anything yellow that you think they would love! These reusable daisy gift bags are perfect to put everything in. I love how this turned out! #teachergift #teachergiftideas #diygift #cupofsunshine #giftidea #simplegift #momlife #teacherappreciation #teacherappreciationweek #endofyeargifts #momtips #giftideasforher

It’s okay to ask for flowers 💐 and whatever else you’re hoping for on holidays and birthdays! Communicating about expectations for holidays, special occasions, anniversaries, and birthdays is so important! Because everyone comes from different backgrounds and families do things differently. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to realize that telling him what I wanted did not make it less special!A few things I want to be clear on- Austin wasn’t never not doing anything for me for birthdays and holidays. I just had really high expectations and wanted him to read my mind to know exactly how to make me feel special. Now, that being said- I am glad he has gotten better at knowing me and what makes me feel special because there was room to grow. And there’s room for me to grow too! I feel bad looking back at some of those special occasions when I would end the day feeling hurt and he would also be disappointed because we just weren’t on the same page. I’m grateful to be growing as a person and to be able to really just enjoy these special days for what they are! I went to bed last night after a truly wonderful Mother’s Day thinking about how grateful I am for Austin and the girls and how perfect our day was together and that’s how I want every holiday to feel.#marriage #marriageadvice #marriagethoughts #holidayexpectations #holidays #mombirthday #mothersday #momlife #communicationinmarriage
