Toddler Sensory Bins

I came across the idea to use sensory bins with Emily a few months ago. I heard that they were great for helping her development and learning. The different textures, colors, shapes, and activities that can be done with them offer a ton of learning opportunities. So I knew I wanted to give them a try with her.

There are places you can buy sensory bins already made, but after looking up some ideas, I decided to head to the Dollar Tree and pick up some supplies to make them ourselves. I made her 4 different bins with different themes and I’m sharing what we came up with and how I went about creating them.

I started by picking out themes for my bins. The party favor section and the toy section at the Dollar Tree have great options. Emily helped me pick out Under the Sea, Airplanes, All the Colors, and Play Food as our themes.

Once we had items to go in our bins, we went to look for filler to fill each one of the bins. We were looking for things like rice, pasta, rocks, and brown sugar. We decided on blue gem stones for our Under the Sea bin, rice for the All the Colors bin, rocks for the Airplane bin, and pasta for the Play Food bin. I also grabbed some fun tools for her to use to play in the bins with.

Once I had everything I needed, it only took about 10 minutes to put them all together. I spent less than $25 total and we have had so much fun playing with them. For easier clean up, I like to use a plastic table cloth so I can easily put back anything that came out of the bins during our playtime.

Have you ever made or used sensory bins before with your toddler? I would love ideas for new themes we can try for our next bins!

Comment “ sunshine ” and I’ll message you the link for everything I used to put this together! ☀️🌼🍋Tag a friend who is a teacher in the comments or comment if you’re a teacher(homeschool mama’s count too) and I’ll choose two of them to send an Amazon gift card to next week! 💛💛A little cup of sunshine is the perfect way to say thank you to your kid’s teacher at the end of the year. I started with this cute lemon glass from Amazon and filled it with a handful of yellow goodies like a facemask, eye patches, hand lotion, chocolates, a lip balm and an adorable daisy hair clip. Then I added a lemon keychain to the side. You can really be creative and add anything yellow that you think they would love! These reusable daisy gift bags are perfect to put everything in. I love how this turned out! #teachergift #teachergiftideas #diygift #cupofsunshine #giftidea #simplegift #momlife #teacherappreciation #teacherappreciationweek #endofyeargifts #momtips #giftideasforher

It’s okay to ask for flowers 💐 and whatever else you’re hoping for on holidays and birthdays! Communicating about expectations for holidays, special occasions, anniversaries, and birthdays is so important! Because everyone comes from different backgrounds and families do things differently. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to realize that telling him what I wanted did not make it less special!A few things I want to be clear on- Austin wasn’t never not doing anything for me for birthdays and holidays. I just had really high expectations and wanted him to read my mind to know exactly how to make me feel special. Now, that being said- I am glad he has gotten better at knowing me and what makes me feel special because there was room to grow. And there’s room for me to grow too! I feel bad looking back at some of those special occasions when I would end the day feeling hurt and he would also be disappointed because we just weren’t on the same page. I’m grateful to be growing as a person and to be able to really just enjoy these special days for what they are! I went to bed last night after a truly wonderful Mother’s Day thinking about how grateful I am for Austin and the girls and how perfect our day was together and that’s how I want every holiday to feel.#marriage #marriageadvice #marriagethoughts #holidayexpectations #holidays #mombirthday #mothersday #momlife #communicationinmarriage
